Social History Research

Give voice to your ancestors by exploring the world they lived in

While family trees show who your ancestors were, social history research reveals how they lived. Through in-depth exploration of archival records, historical literature, and expert knowledge, I uncover the daily life, beliefs, customs, and challenges of your family’s past.

With over 20 years of experience—including museum exhibitions and published research—I place your ancestors’ lives in historical context, making their story more vivid, relatable, and meaningful.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

That is always welcome. While building the family tree, various details related to a particular ancestor or their family may emerge. These details might include occupation, wealth status, serfdom, cause of death, and more. It makes sense to explore such information within the context of social history research.

The duration of the research depends on the complexity of the topic and the availability of expert literature on the subject. Information on a specific topic largely relies on specialized literature, which is almost exclusively written in Slovenian. Sources of information are also sought in archives, museums, and other institutions that hold the relevant materials. The client is always informed about the available options and the approximate time frame for researching a particular topic.

The research is meticulously grounded in expert literature and follows strict academic standards. Every research outcome is delivered as a comprehensive written report, with all necessary citations and proper academic writing conventions. Additionally, certain topics may be explored through interviews with individuals who have direct knowledge of the subject. With over 16 years of experience in preparing specialized historical texts, including curating significant exhibitions and authoring monographs at a national museum, I bring a high level of expertise to the research process. You can therefore be confident that the information you receive will be accurate, reliable, and presented according to the highest academic standards.

Additional costs may arise when conducting on-site research in libraries, museums, or archives. These costs are primarily related to travel expenses. Fortunately, Slovenia is a small country with short travel distances, meaning the costs remain relatively low. Travel expenses are charged at €0.35 per kilometer (approximately €0.56 per mile). Should such costs arise, you will always be informed in advance of the exact amount. I make every effort to minimize these additional expenses by combining multiple research tasks or visits to different archives in one trip, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
