Guided Ancestral Tours

Walk in your ancestors’ footsteps and reconnect with your Slovenian roots

Step into the past with a private, custom-designed tour of your ancestral homeland. Visit the places where your ancestors lived—their birthplaces, family homes, villages, and churches—and experience a deeply personal journey into your heritage, guided with care, insight, and historical expertise.

With extensive experience leading visitors through museums and historic sites since 2004, I create unique heritage tours that bring family history to life within the authentic landscapes and culture of Slovenia.

How It Works

Consultation:
A guided ancestral tour begins with a consultation to review any family tree or family stories you may already have. Together, we define the places you’d like to visit and shape a personalized itinerary, which can include ancestral homes, churches, cemeteries, local landmarks, or meetings with relatives when possible.

Duration:
Most tours are private day trips visiting up to six significant sites. Multi-day tours are recommended if your roots span several regions, allowing more time for exploration and deeper insights.

What You Get:
Each tour is custom-built around your family history and includes itinerary planning, on-site guiding, and historical interpretation at carefully selected locations.

Preparation work—such as verifying current house numbers and historical addresses, contacting property owners or potential relatives, and arranging visits—is carried out in advance and billed separately.

Pricing:
The daily rate covers a full day of guided ancestral touring and on-site interpretation.
Travel expenses are charged in addition (€0.35/km). Entrance fees and meals are not included.
Preparation work is billed separately, and you will always receive an estimate in advance.

Preserve Your Journey

After your ancestral tour, your experience doesn’t have to end. It can be preserved in a carefully crafted document that brings together the places you visited, the stories you discovered, and the connections you made.

A professionally designed report (approx. 20–25 pages) with selected photographs, descriptions of visited locations, and historical insights. It transforms your tour into a lasting and meaningful record that you can revisit and share with your family.

Many clients choose to preserve their experience in a written form for future generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

A one-day tour is ideal for visiting up to four ancestral locations that are close to each other, while multi-day tours are perfect for exploring several places, even when they span different regions. The exact duration of the tour depends on your preferences.

Yes, I can arrange visits to multiple locations, even on a one-day tour. However, in such cases, cultural institutions such as museums, castles, and similar sites are typically not included due to time constraints. For a more comprehensive journey, multi-day tours are available.

I offer assistance with travel logistics, including optional airport pick-up services, and can help with accommodation and dining arrangements. For one-day tours, we ensure that suitable lunch or snack locations are found based on your preferences. Please note that the meals are not covered by the tour fee.

Absolutely! I encourage you to personalize the tour to make it even more meaningful. You can include family heirlooms, photos, or any other elements that add significance to your experience.

No, this cannot always be guaranteed as some relatives may no longer exist or may not wish to meet. All meetings are arranged with prior consent from all parties involved.
