These manuscripts preserved practical medical knowledge used by ordinary rural people at a time when professional doctors were often far away, expensive, or completely inaccessible.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd92a74 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fd92a74\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">One particularly important tradition of such healing manuals originated with Pavle Lipi\u010d, a farmer and folk healer from Bodovlje near <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">\u0160kofja Loka<\/span><\/span> around 1810. Over time, villagers copied these texts by hand and passed them from one generation to another. The manuscript that inspired this short article, &#8220;Bukve zdravilstva&#8221;, was copied in 1880 by Alojz Brvar from Toplice near Zagorje. According to the manuscript, this would help the injury heal quickly \u201cwithout harm.\u201d<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1xngp5n\" data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1471\">The plant <em data-start=\"1372\" data-end=\"1381\">slamnik<\/em> crushed and cooked together with honey and wine, then applied to the wound as a dressing.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"bx7ot5\" data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1606\">Fresh buds (\u201cpoplne\u201d in the manuscript, probably referring to young shoots or buds) boiled in wine and spread over the injured area.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1i71uiu\" data-start=\"1607\" data-end=\"1696\">The fruits of the yellow cinquefoil plant mixed with lard and crushed into an ointment.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1tem208\" data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1765\">For larger wounds, fresh oak bark placed directly onto the injury.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef0d8ee elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ef0d8ee\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"2164\">What makes this page especially striking is not only the remedies themselves, but also the emotional illustration beside the text.
